Je intensiver man sich mit der Grammatik einer Sprache beschäftigt, desto faszinierender wird sie. Schnell erkennt man beim Erlernen mehrerer Sprachen Analogien und Divergenzen zwischen ihnen und kann so jede neu dazukommende Sprache noch leichter lernen. Ein mikroskopischer Vergleich grammatischer Strukturen macht indogermanische Verwandtschaftsbeziehungen zwischen den einzelnen Sprachen besonders deutlich und zeigt auf, dass beispielsweise das Altgriechische (das klassische Attisch) mit dem Deutschen mehr gemeinsam hat, als wohl die meisten Menschen denken würden.

Meine Arbeit fördert diese Erkenntnisse anschaulich zu Tage. Doch auch die anderen untersuchten Sprachen zeigen untereinander Analogien auf, die sie vom Deutschen und Altgriechischen eindeutig unterscheiden. Macht man sich diese Analogien einmal klar, ist es ein leichtes, eine dieser für Europa und die ganze Welt so wichtigen Sprachen zu erlernen. Es ist nicht schwer, die Grammatik als Grundgerüst einer Sprache zu begreifen und dieses dann mit Wörtern zu füllen. Gleichzeitig ist es eine unerlässliche Notwendigkeit, ohne die man über ein paar Begrüßungsfloskeln nicht hinaus kommt.

Des weiteren stellt die korrekte Umsetzung der indirekten Rede ein unerlässliches Werkzeug für jeden Journalisten, Übersetzer, Historiker und Sprachwissenschaftler dar, für diejenigen also, die häufig mit fremden Quellen umgehen und aus ihnen zitieren müssen.
